Winter Cider Festival

at 31 August 2019 – 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm AWST

Carmel Cider presents ‘Carmel Cider Winter Festival’ A festival to celebrate the end of winter & good harvest for the coming year.

A winter festival in the picturesque Carmel, Perth Hills to bless a fruitful cider harvest for 2020 as done in the cider regions of the UK for hundreds of years.

The wassailing, or blessing of the fruit trees, involves drinking and singing to the health of the trees in the hope that they will provide a fruitful harvest in the autumn. Celebrations vary from orchard to orchard, but generally involve a wassail King and Queen leading the assembled group of revellers, comprising the farmers, farm workers and general villagers, in a noisy procession from one orchard to the next. In each orchard the wassailers gather round the biggest tree, and as a gift to the tree spirits, the Queen places a piece of wassail soaked toast into its branches, accompanied by songs.
